On 04.03.2018 I travelled to Ireland for a work experience with my class and the GA16. At 10 pm we arrived in Ireland and was received by Mrs Olive Smith, my host mother. We drove to her house and talked a bit to get know each other. My room was very huge with a bed for 2 people and a TV. The next day we had our first schoolday of 3 days. There we got an introduction of Ireland's behaviour. For this we received a few rules that we should follow. I met my host father that evening, Ronny Smith.
We talked about their family while we were eating. They have two sons. The first son, Robert Smith, is even known, because he represents Ireland in the Dart Championships. They also showed me their German shepherd named Maggie. For me, it was a familiar picture-book family, but with more humour and joy.
I was alone for one week as a work experience student until my host brother arrived. He is from Billerbeck near Münster and is 20 years old like me. Their sons are already near and over 30 years old and don’t live at home with their parents anymore, but they often visited their parents.
Our host mother always cooked meals for us after our work and it was always delicious. I tell my mother in Germany, that she has a competitor for cooking. Our lunch packages often changed the content so that we didn’t have the same things all the time.
It was funny that when I came back or my host brother and I came back from the pub we watched sometimes dart with our host parents and drunk beer or wine and they taught us about Darts and the national players. Because the son plays dart, they had a dart room with cups, pictures with the most famous dart players and a dartboard. We played many rounds with our host dad and got better.
We often travelled in Ireland and my host parents told us where the best places are. Some friends and I walked nearly 25 km once over a mountain and I was so tired when I was at home. The time went so fast and the problem was that time was too short, because we had our work, so many plans to visit places and when we were home we were sometimes so tired, that we only chilled out. Sometimes we talked more than 2 hours together, but with even a longer time it would have been more possible to do more with the family, because this family is really awesome.
